When the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings took to the hallowed turf of Croke Park on September 28, 2025, it wasn’t just a game — it was a moment that put Ireland on the map in the world of American football. With a thrilling 24–21 finish, the first ever regular-season NFL game in Dublin captivated a sold-out crowd of 74,512 and earned rave reviews for its energy, spectacle, and local embrace.

What really stood out wasn’t just the scoreline, it was the weekend takeover. More than 40,000 people took part in fan activities across Dublin, from NFL Experience events at Dublin Castle to fan tailgates in the city’s squares.

Officials from both the NFL and Irish tourism sectors have hailed the event a triumph, one that delivered on excitement and economic impact. The Irish weather co-operated with a beautiful fall Sunday, and the day was complete with music, fireworks, kiss cams, and stadium-wide fan engagement.

For many American football lovers, this is a turning point: you no longer need to just fly across sea and sky to catch your favorite sport. You can vacation in a place rich in history, scenery, and hospitality and also catch top-tier football. Dublin (and by extension, Ireland) just proved it can pull off world-class sports, major events, and unforgettable fan moments.

Whether you’re a diehard NFL devotee or an American college football follower, Ireland now offers a new kind of trip: part sport pilgrimage, part Emerald Isle adventure. If your allegiance leans college rather than pro, Ireland has that covered too. The Aer Lingus College Football Classic has become an annual fixture in August and in 2026, TCU and North Carolina will take the field at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. That means you can mix the electric collegiate atmosphere, with marching bands, tailgates, and school pride, into a summer trip to Ireland. It’s not just a sideline event; it’s a destination shift.

If you’re ready to combine a love of football with the enchantment of Ireland, from Dublin’s streets to its wild landscapes, I’d love to help you plan the perfect game + getaway. Just say the word and I’ll build some sample itineraries! From pubs to castles to coastal hikes, Ireland’s draw goes beyond the scoreboard. Let the country be part of your story, not just the backdrop.
