Sixteen hotels across Ireland were awarded the prestigious Michelin Key in 2025. Think of the Keys like Michelin Stars, but for hospitality. Lodgings are evaluated on architecture & design, service, personality, local connection, value, and more. I’ll walk you through which hotels made the list, what each Key level means, highlights of stays, and why you might want to plan a trip around them.

To decide who gets a Key, the Michelin Guide considers factors beyond just luxury or price. Some of the most common features among these top Irish Keys:
Architecture & Design: Many of the hotels are restored historic properties (castles, manor houses) or have a very distinctive character. Think Adare Manor, Cashel Palace, Ballyfin.
Sense of Place & Locality: Hotels that reflect their setting — in terms of surroundings, culture, food, materials. For example, Sheen Falls Lodge, The Park Kenmare and The Victoria in Killarney draw heavily on their scenic contexts.
Service & Guest Experience: Consistently excellent service, attention to detail and staff attitude make guests feel special but comfortable.
Value & Uniqueness: Even high-end properties are judged partly on whether guests feel what they receive is worth what they pay, and whether the hotel offers something uniquely memorable.
Sustainability & Contribution to Local Area: Although not always publicly emphasized, there is increasing interest in how hotels contribute to their environment and communities. Some properties use local sourcing, support local artisans and integrate into the surrounding nature.
There are three levels of Michelin Key awards.
For a splurge or special occasion, go for a Three-Key hotel.
These hotels are perfect for “trip of a lifetime” type stays with everything taken care of. Three Keys represent an extraordinary stay.
For strong luxury with a slightly more accessible price point, Two-Key properties fit the bill.
Elegance and character without the ultra premium price tag; they balance WOW factor with a bit more down-to-earth comfort. Two Keys offer an exceptional stay.
For charm, uniqueness, and maybe a shorter stay, consider the One-Key hotels, an excellent choice.
You’ll get something very special, often in striking settings. Many are historic properties, or boutique hotels, and sometimes you’ll pay significantly less for an unforgettable experience. One Key equals a very special stay.
